United Technologies Corporation (UTC) has been supporting the arts for more than 20 years. The company is committed to giving back to the communities where its employees work and live, and is guided by the principle that successful business improves the human condition.

Since 1979, UTC has sponsored 60 visual arts exhibitions and more than 500 performances throughout the United States. The company has benefited the arts, business and the community by:

  • Supporting Johannes Vermeer and The Impressionists at Argenteuil in the National Gallery of Arts, Washington, DC; and Crossing the Channel: French and British Painting in the Age of Romance in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY.
  • Sponsoring performances and exhibitions of many Hartford, CT, arts organizations including: the Hartford Stage and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Since 1994, UTC has contributed $2.9 million to the Wadsworth Atheneum for its operations, exhibitions and programs including Family Sundaes-an educational program for children and their families. The company contributed more than $4.5 million to United Technologies Symphony on Ice-an ice-skating show featuring the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and benefiting Toys for Tots. It also supported Music Speaks to Me-an educational initiative of Chamber Music Plus, Hartford, CT, that has helped to improve Connecticut Mastery Test scores.
  • Supporting performances and organizations that reflect Hartford's diverse population including contributions of nearly $500,000 since 1994 to the Artists Collective to preserve African American cultural traditions; grants of more than $80,000 since 1997 to the Amistad Foundation for several programs including Kids and Kinfolk-which offers cultural-based educational opportunities for youth and families; and sponsoring American Originals: Treasures from the National Archives-an exhibition featuring the Emancipation Proclamation-at the University of Hartford's Museum of American Political Life.
  • Integrating the arts into the course of business by hosting meetings at cultural institutions. From 2000 to 2002, the company held its annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast in the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT; its 2002 annual shareholder's meeting in the American Museum of Natural History, New York, NY; its 2003 annual shareholder's meeting in The New York Public Library, New York, NY; and its fall 2003 security analysts meeting in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY.
  • During the past 10 years United Technologies Corporation has contributed more than $3.8 million to the arts through its Employee Matching Gift Program, and more than 150 employees, including UTC's Chairman and CEO, serve on not-for-profit boards.
