Technology Company Builds Employee Relations and Community Involvement with the Arts

Company: StorageTek
Headquarters: Louisville, Colorado
Industry: Data Storage
Company Size: Large (annual revenues of more than $250 million)

"StorageTek understands the value of creativity and innovation to our society and to our business. It is through support of the arts that we participate in building a stronger, richer and more vibrant community."
                – Patrick Martin, Chairman, President and CEO

Objectives
To create a work environment that stimulates visual thinking and creativity, to strengthen the StorageTek brand, and to heighten the company’s community involvement with the arts.

Process

  • StorageTek integrates visual art created by Colorado artists throughout its headquarters to enrich the work environment and foster workplace discussions.
  • The works, chosen by an employee art committee, reflect StorageTek’s multi-cultural employee base and global business involvement. The committee also decides where the art is displayed, including in the company cafeteria, where the public may view the work.
  • Printed materials and presentations sponsored by the company enable employees to learn about the artists and the works in the collection, which are also available for purchase.
  • To offer employees the opportunity to learn about the creative process and to become more familiar with some of the artists represented in its collection, StorageTek sponsors exhibitions organized by the Boulder Open Studio and works with the organization to arrange artist studio tours.

Results
StorageTek’s corporate art program creates a dynamic workspace that reinforces its commitment to innovation, growth and productivity, and at the same time helps the company attract and retain employees. It also reinforces the company’s commitment to enhancing its headquarter community and to nurturing the creative expression of Colorado artists.
