"A major part of our contributions is to the arts because they so clearly
enrich our lives, our schools and our communities."
– Vince Hannity, Vice President, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations
Objectives
To increase the company’s name recognition, to enhance the quality of life of
its headquarter community, and to promote literature programs in Boise.
Process
- Boise Cascade is a major sponsor of the Log Cabin Literary Center, a
not-for-profit organization that provides readers with educational and cultural
programs, classes, workshops and resources for emerging writers.
- In addition to funding the Center’s renovation efforts, Boise Cascade has
underwritten the Center’s annual BookFest, Idaho’s largest celebration of
reading and writing. Boise Cascade employees volunteer at BookFest
events, which include writer’s workshops and consultations, and storytelling and
theater games for children.
- Boise Cascade is also a sponsor of the Center’s Writers in the
Schools (WITS) residencies, a program that places professional writers and
poets in Idaho schools to provide students and teachers with innovative
approaches to writing. Each residency culminates with a celebratory reading by
students and the publication of an anthology of their work.
- The Company also supports the Center’s Summer Writing Camp, a program that
invites professional writers, poets and storytellers from around the Northwest
to enhance creative writing skills among middle and high school students. The
Camp culminates with readings of student works on the Log Cabin lawn and the
publication of selected works in Field Notes.
Results
Boise Cascade has heightened its presence in the community through the extensive
media coverage that has resulted from its support of BookFest and the Log
Cabin Literary Center. Additionally, the company is fostering an interest in
reading and writing, and enriching arts education programs that offer
encouragement and experience to young writers.
