Exploration Company Enhances Reputation and Employee Morale
Through Arts Partnership

Company: Fugro Chance Inc.
Headquarters: Lafayette, Louisiana
Industry: Oil and Gas Exploration
Company Size: Midsize (annual revenues of $50 million to $250 million)

"Fugro Chance is a strong supporter of arts and cultural initiatives around the world. On a local level, Fugro in Lafayette thrives in an artistically and culturally rich environment, aspiring to excellence through further investment for us and the future of our children."
                – Phil Stutes, President

Objectives
To further its reputation as a company committed to enriching the quality of life in its headquarter community, to increase interest in the arts and arts education, and to enhance employee morale and involvement with the arts.

Process

  • To further arts education initiatives, Fugro Chance collaborated with the Acadiana Arts Council, Lafayette, Louisiana, and the Lafayette Parish School System to expand Pelicans on Parade, a project teaming artists with students from 13 elementary schools receiving Title 1 funding through the Federal Primary Academic and Creative Experiences program.
  • To secure additional support, the company hosted a press reception to launch the project and promote business sponsorship of artists’ designs, gathered donated products and services from local manufacturers, and coordinated the placement of the finished birds in strategic locations throughout the community.
  • As part of its promotional efforts, the company assisted with media relations, developed promotional items and kicked off its "technology tour," which highlighted developments in oil exploration technology for potential clients.
  • The company also funded the Louisiana Field Guide to Pelicans on Parade, a booklet written by high school English classes and produced by the local newspaper that documented every aspect of the project.

Results
Publicity generated by Pelicans on Parade events significantly enhanced Fugro Chance’s image in the community and instilled a sense of pride and project ownership among its employees. Because of the success of the project, the Acadiana Arts Council staff is developing similar projects, and a Percent-for-Art ordinance has been included in the new Lafayette Parish strategic community plan.
