Engineering Firm Networks by Supporting the Arts

Company: TFMoran, Inc.
Headquarters: Bedford, New Hampshire
Industry: Land Surveyors/Civil Engineers
Company Size: Small (annual revenues of less than $50 million)

"We believe that supporting the arts improves the quality of life of the community which is ultimately good for business and helps attract and keep quality professional employees."
                – Robert Cruess, Chief Executive Officer

Objectives
To increase networking opportunities and revenues, to attract and retain professional employees, and to improve the quality of life of the community.

Process

  • To preserve part of Manchester’s history, TFMoran purchased and restored the Cathedral Library, a 19th century structure once on the grounds of Manchester Cathedral that houses reproductions of frescoes by Tiepolo and Della Robio. The firm, which uses the building as its Manchester office, registered the building with the Manchester Historical Society, and has opened the facility to the public.
  • TFMoran also supports New Hampshire artists by purchasing and commissioning works that are displayed in its offices in New Hampshire
    and Massachusetts.
  • As a corporate sponsor of the Granite State Opera League, TFMoran hosts Opera League fundraisers in its Manchester office and underwrites the cost of the invitations, plus food and beverages for these and other events. The firm also purchased a piano, which is housed permanently in its Manchester office, for use by the Opera League for events and rehearsals. In addition, TFMoran hosts the organization’s Board of Trustees meetings in its Bedford office.

Results
TFMoran is recognized throughout New Hampshire for its support of the arts, which helps it attract and retain employees. And, the company’s leadership in supporting the arts has become a model that other small businesses are following.
