Headquarters: Tampa, Florida
Industry: Civil Engineering
Company Size: Small (annual revenues of less than $50 million)
"At King Engineering, we believe when local government, business enterprises
and arts organizations direct their resources toward a common goal, the results
far exceed what can be accomplished individually. Working together multiplies
the benefits we each receive."
– Jerome Baranowski, Chief Financial Officer
Objectives
To enrich the cultural vitality and quality of life of its operating community,
to boost employee morale and to strengthen name recognition within the
community.
Process
- To celebrate its 20th anniversary, King Engineering Associates
formed a partnership with Artists Unlimited, Inc. (AUI) — a local arts
organization that provides classes, exhibition and studio space, and outreach
programs for artists — to build an outdoor public sculpture garden in an
underutilized portion of Tampa.
- King Engineering designed the park, developed budgets and contracts,
solicited vendors to donate services, coordinated a golf tournament to raise
funds for the project, and contributed $25,000, plus a sculpture created by its
employees.
- The company also organized and funded the park’s grand opening in
conjunction with its anniversary celebration. The event, attended by King
employees and clients, business, arts and community leaders, included tours of
the park and AUI’s adjoining facilities and exhibitions.
Results
King’s involvement with the park has led to extensive media coverage, which has
attracted new clients, boosted employee morale and enhanced its presence in the
community. The park has revitalized a blighted area of the city that has become
a focal point for the visual and performing arts, as well as for civic,
commercial and private events, and attracts thousands of visitors annually.
